Oxy to Princeton: A Road Trip?
Saturdays and Sundays, June 7 to August 31, 2008, 12 to 4 p.m. 
This exhibition features a private collection of 20 photographs that may have been taken during a cross country road trip by early automobile enthusiast, circa 1915. The exhibit features many never before seen images of sites across the United States and Southern California. Exhibit sponsored by Scott Chevrolet. 

Silent Movie Nights (Updated!)
Saturdays, July 12, 19 and 26, gates open at 7:30 p.m.  Movies begin approximately at 8 p.m.
Enjoy a picnic on the lawn while viewing classic and silent movies. Each night showcases movies of a different theme or feature a particular actor.
Free admission for museum members and $10 for the general audience. Guests are encouraged to bring a chair or blanket to sit on, a small picnic, and warm clothing. Beverages and snacks will be available for purchase. Scheduled themes for each of the Movie Nights’ are: 

July 12: Silent Movie Comedians, with shorts from Charlie Chaplin (Police, and Shanghaied), Buster Keaton (Hard Luck, and Cops) and Harold Lloyd (Are Crooks Dishonest?

July 19: Film Noir classic Dressed to Kill from 1941. This is the forth in the Michael Shayne whodunit series produced by 20th Century Fox starring Lloyd Nolan and Mary Beth Hughes.  Summary of the plot – Detective Shayne tries to convince his girlfriend Joanne he is ready for marriage when suddenly they hear gunshots from a nearby hotel. 

July 26: A night for movie musicals, with Meet Me in Saint Louis, from 1944 starring Judy Garland, Margaret O’Brien and Tom Drake.  Summary of the plot – One year before the 1904 World’s Fair, the four Smith daughters learn lessons about love and life as they prepare to move to New York.  Nominated for 4 Oscars, the film is best know for its songs, including “The Trolley Song” and “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas”, (the original version of this most popular holiday classic). 

Concerts at The Square (Updated!)
Thursdays, July 17th and 31st, and August 28 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. 
These free concerts invite you to take a break from your commute for a few hours of entertainment at Heritage Square. Doors open at 4:00, with performances starting at 4:30 p.m.. July 17 begins with Marie MacGillis and the Toddy Trio, followed by the Pasadena City College Swing Band. July 31 begins with Groove Session, followed by the Susie Hansen Latin Band. August 28 begins with the “Sometimes in Tune" band, followed by Orquesta Salsumba. Free to the public. Special gift for museum members during concert series.  This free event is made possible through the support of several local neighborhood councils and the LA County Arts Commission.  For more information, click here.

Upcoming Events:

  • Behind the Scenes Tour—September 20, TBA. For Contributing and higher-level members, enjoy a special “behind the scenes” tour of Heritage Square Museum. This is your chance to see areas of the museum not open to the general public, how the homes and furnishings are restored, what the future plans are for the museum and much more. Space is limited.

  • Magical Musical Memorabilia Sale—October, TBA. Enjoy a rare opportunity to shop for vintage phonograph records and record players, sheet music, pianos and more…in the 111 year old Lincoln Avenue Methodist Church at Heritage Square Museum. A $5.00 general admission for everyone.

Museum Highlights:

“Volstead Act Repealed!” Celebration and Picnic. A Lighthearted Look at Prohibition, on Saturday, June 21, Heritage Square Museum and the Art Deco Society of Los Angeles hosted the hottest ticket in town. We thank all of the visitors that came and celebrated the 75th Anniversary of the end of Prohibition during this joint fundraiser. The museum thanks all of the donors, sponsors, Councilman Ed Reyes and the Bilgewater Rats for their support.

Vintage Automobile Show, on Saturday, June 7, visitors enjoyed an up-close look at several rare and beautifully crafted automobiles from the 1900s to the 1960s. Participating groups included the Screenland Model A’s Club of Culver City, the Model T Ford Club of America, San Fernando Chapter, the Kaiser Club, the Los Angeles Fire Department and many more. We thank all of the auto clubs and volunteers for participating.  We also thank Lizarde Auto Service, The Shop Auto Body, and Scott Chevrolet for sponsoring our auto show. 

Museums Of The Arroyo Day, on Sunday, May 18, over 1800 visitors rediscover the rich culture of the Arroyo Seco and celebrate International Museums Day at the 19th Annual Museums of the Arroyo (MOTA) Day at Heritage Square Museum.  We thank all of the participants, (WEST, California Carvers Guild, San Gabriel StoryTellers, and Rose Bowl Riders), the individual performers and presenters, and volunteers for their assistance in making it such a successful day. We also thank Councilman Ed Reyes, District One for his help in securing shuttle service for the Highland Park/Lincoln Heights MOTA museums.
